University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute

The University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute is a nonprofit 501(c)3 affiliated with the University of Florida College of Medicine and the University of Florida Health Cancer Center, an NCI-Designated Cancer Center and a Florida Cancer Center of Excellence.

Since opening as the first proton therapy facility in the Southeast in 2006, the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute has established a national and international reputation as a recognized leader in proton therapy research, patient care and education. It has treated more than 11,000 patients with protons, as of 2023, from all 50 states and 34 different countries for more than 20 types of cancer.

As part of its research mission within an academic health center, patients can participate in clinical trials, including national and international trials through Children’s Oncology Group, Radiation Therapy Oncology Group and other consortia. The clinical research team has published more than 400 articles, setting the standards for proton therapy cancer centers worldwide.

The experience and expertise of the clinical team and staff combined with the latest technology, including both double scatter and pencil beam scanning, enable the treatment of a broad range of cancers. In patient satisfaction surveys, 99% say their daily treatment experience is “excellent” or “good,” and 98% would recommend the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute to a friend or family member.
