South Florida Proton Therapy Institute

The South Florida Proton Therapy Institute (SFPTI) is a radiation oncology center that opened in 2018 on the campus of Delray Medical Center that is owned and operated by Proton International. SFPTI has been treating patients with the ProBeam® Compact single-room proton therapy system and the Edge® Radiosurgery System from Varian.

Led by Medical Director Tim Williams, M.D., Scott Gasiorek, M.D., and James W. Snider, MD., the center features the most innovative technology available with both proton and photon radiation therapy. Dr. Charles Shang is the Director of Medical Physics and Radiation Safety Officer and works closely with the oncology team to devise the safest and most effective treatment plans for SFPTI’s patients.

SFPTI provides those in Palm Beach County and the surrounding communities with a tremendous new resource in the fight against cancer. Here are some facts about the center:

  • 40,000 square foot facility
  • 1st Single Vault Varian ProBeam System in the U.S.
  • First patient treated in the center on November 13, 2019
