Gil Chimes was enjoying a decades-long music career when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Faced with the prospect of surgery that would have affected his ability to sing and play the harmonica, Gil was intrigued by a TV news story about the opening of the New York Proton Center. An appointment with NYPC’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Charles B. Simone II, an internationally renowned lung cancer expert, followed. Gil had proton therapy, experienced minimal side effects and continued to perform on stage during treatment.
