Bob Marckini has done his homework and written an informative new book that takes much of the mystery out of the confusion about what to do about prostate cancer and how and where to get treated. Speaking from personal experience as a "graduate" of the Loma Linda proton treatment program seven years ago, he makes a strong case for considering proton therapy as a viable option for avoiding radical surgery. He dedicates his book, You Can Beat Prostate Cancer, to the "extraordinary people at Loma Linda University Medical Center that saved my life and preserved the quality of my life."
During his treatment tenure, Marckini got a bright idea. He founded the Brotherhood of the Balloon (www.protonbob.com), an organization dedicated to providing thousands of men (and their spouses) with a platform for sharing their before and after experiences as well as support advice for any post treatment concerns. We recommend this book to anyone seeking first-hand knowledge and/or insights into the prostate cancer decision-making process. This book pretty much covers it all: from initial diagnosis and fear to investigating all treatment options, the treatment process itself, and life after completing proton therapy. The author even devotes a chapter on medical insurance coverage with key tips on how to obtain coverage and who pays what.
The book can be ordered online for $20 at www.protonbob.com
